Wow - I would have thought that they would have the new building up by now, we surveyed the old previous building in the fall of 2018. Probably the best week of my surveyor's life up to that point!
Fundraising took quite a while, and then construction was delayed following demolition and discovery of contaminated soil or some other underground remediation requiring additional excavation.

This is more campus redevelopment than campustown redevelopment, but whatever.

The new 30-year campus facilities plan includes some interesting proposals.

Based on the map, it looks like the Armory will go away at some point and be replaced with a new building. Also, major changes around Physics/Science/Lago and a new Student Services Building. Additions to Design, Town Engineering, Black Engineering, Landscape Architecture (among others).

Noted in the article is a Beyer expansion that would host wellness/counseling services, thereby leaving Thielen empty.

Some updates from Campustown...

(1) The mini Kum and Go on Lincoln Way (next to Blaze Pizza) apparently closed over semester break. Signage is gone and the windows are papered over.

(2) The Smokin' Oak pizza location is now The Collective, which I guess is some type of student hangout. It's a Collins Community Credit Union effort.

(3) The Subway/Asylum building on Welch got a facelift.

Kind of surprised the kum and go didn’t work with the apartments right above.

Good news on the Superdog.

I’m completely out of the loop, but any updates on the Firestation on Welch relocating? Did the relocation idea lose steam?

Also, any news on the vacant lots on Lincoln where there was a Brothers possibly going?

I remember K&G owning some prime lots in Campustown, maybe we’ll see the new owners,Maverick, get something going?

Thanks!

So... Cactus, which succeeded Fuzzy's on Lincoln Way, closed in October presumably in part due to this:

"During that the last renewal period, beginning in February 2023, through the closure of the establishment in October 2023, 15 patrons were cited for possession of alcohol under the legal age, 5 patrons were cited for on premise, two citations were issued to the manager for failing to prevent minors from consuming alcohol, and one citation was issued for a fake ID. Five of the citations were issued to two patrons for during one event. One patron was cited for minor on premise and possession of alcohol under the legal age; the other was cited for minor on premise, possession of alcohol under the legal age, and fake ID."

In the meantime, they have moved (or are moving) to 223 Welch -- above Blue Owl(?) -- and have reapplied for a liquor license renewal. Bold strategy, Cotton.
