Oh man, hadn't seen this yet.

I'm thinking that as well.
For those who might not know what kind of tractor a JD 2640 is here is a picture of one. It would basically be a utility or chore type of tractor as it's only a 70 HP tractor so it wouldn't have enough horse power to do any heavy field work. It wouldn't take much to knock a tractor like this off the road, especially in a pickup that was driving with any kind of speed.
New report indicated he took off on foot and left his truck behind. Would not have been hard to find him.
He left the truck at the scene?

That's just so stupid.
It is awful to leave the scene period. It's just plain stupid as well, especially if he wasn't driving.
I always forget it is darker farther north. We still have pretty good light after 8:00 for a while in southern Iowa this time of year. We also have a ton of farm equipment and occasional Amish buggies.

I guess I overestimated him
And he would have had to been really drunk for his whole plan to sound like a good idea.
If they prove he was intoxicated, that's a class B felony and he will be in prison a while. Vehicular homicide, Iowa Code section 707.6A, subsection 1.
