I don't think of league average as a bad thing necessarily in this scenario. You're going to need to ease Horton/Brown into through next season with inning limits, so you're not going to bank on loads of innings there. Wicks still has to prove this year that he's capable of performing over a full year (never cracked 100IP in a year) and Assad seems destined to be a valueable swing man in long relief/spot staring.I look at Taillon as league average at best. He's really just a guy that's blocking our future.
So I think in 2025, a league average innings eater has value. If things get crowded and young guys do force the issue, he's probably a lot easier to shuffle of at next year's deadline or the following off season with only 1-1.5 years left. Just my opinon of course. Good issue to have if you've got a pile of starting pitching to figure out how to use.
