Stavvy ******* kills me. I actually listened to YMH recently because he was on. The Mommies have become the people they used to hate

Tom has been about as unbearable as Bert lately. His new special wasn’t funny at all. I ended up shutting it off.

Stavros is awesome on everything.

I’ve gotten into AYG. Start with comedians you know and like. The concept of this show is pretty damn good and likely hits home with most Iowans.

I think some of their best stuff comes from the family episodes with no guests. Some of the patreon questions just kill me.

I’m a big Bill Simmons fan. He’s excellent with NBA coverage on his own podcast, and sometime he discusses some other interesting topics based on who he has as his guest.

And The Rewatchables is a great podcast where him and other Ringer staff will watch an older movie and go over the ins and outs of the film from the actors/actresses, to the plot, to fun facts, etc.

I actually like Bert in general, because he doesn’t take himself seriously. He gets annoying in long form because he never shuts up.

Tom is so incredibly smug.

Nowhere and Everywhere
A couple of my faves

99% Invisible. - Great podcast about design, creation, and user experience/impact of things you would never think about. My current favorite.

Science Vs - Looking at the science of things in popular culture and it’s claims, myths, etc.

This American Life

Planet Money

Freakanomics

My Dad Wrote A Porno - It you are looking for something absurd to listen to it’s this. It’s literally a guy and his friends reading and commenting on the crappy porno book his dad wrote in retirement. Sounds stupid but hilarious.

Still hard to beat the Joe Rogan Experience. Wide variety of interesting guests and topics. I especially like listening to his conversations with comedians, because some of them are just naturally hilarious in a longer form conversation.
Used to be a cornerstone of my podcast listening, but he's like the number one offender of whining about cancellation (despite his incredible financial success) and having guys go off into the weeds about the completely uninteresting minutiae of the comedy business.

I stopped listening to him. I enjoy some of his interviews but man alive… some of them drag on so long and become very interesting.

"how stuff works" is interesting and funny at times, but I highly recommend you look for episodes that seem interesting instead of listening 1 by 1. It gives you that itch of weird fun facts you can bring up in conversation.

"anthropocene review" based off the author's (John Green) book and is more of a continuation of topics and essays you find from the book. Pretty much an educational exploration of how humans have changed the earth and their environment. Similarly, a bit to how stuff works but more serious and in-depth.

"Duncan Tressel family hour" if you liked the netflix show "midnight gospel" this is the podcast the audio comes from. Adult themes though so I wouldn't listen if you have young kids in the car. Think of wacky and profound interviews depending on the guest. A similar format to joe rogan but with a less problematic host. He has on people who practice ceremonial magic and also has civil right activists that talk about their stories. I remembered a few months ago he had a Daoist monk on that had a Near death experience and they talked about it. My one caveat is, Duncan isn't always the best host imo. He at times seems to insert himself into the interview with a comment when i wish he would just let the interviewee continue.
Similarly, 'Stuff You Should Know'. Often times they'll pull facts from 'How Stuff Works'

Could have something to do with people trying to get him kicked off the air, but that's just a guess.

There have been some amazing guests over the years, that have enriched my life. SC Gwynne and Dan Flores are probably at the top of the list. But there's so much insane ******** and monotonous topics that it can be hard to sift out the good stuff.

Rogan started to really annoy me when he had to start steering every guest, regardless of whether they were comedians, into his "you can't say that anymore" pity party when it wasn't even germane to the conversation.

Which clearly worked, and resulted in him losing his platform and financial livelihood.

Oh wait...

And even if that weren't a thing, I've had my fill of comedians talking about trying to get into The Store and what not.

Play the Game Podcast is one of my regulars. It's a couple of pro paintball players but they do interviews with guys in MMA, and other sports too. They just had David Montgomery on there this week. Lots of discussion on how he mentally and physically prepares to be at the top of his game during the season and the off season.

Small Town Murder is ******* hilarious and a great time killer. It’s two comedians who tell the whole story of a murder that happened in a small American town. They start with the history of the town, and then tell the whole story of the people involved, how things went down, and then the ensuing court proceedings. Just cracking jokes the whole way (although never at the expense of the deceased).
This was a fantastic recommendation. I will be frequenting this one. Hilarious well put together. Appreciated.

I tried Stavvy. I think I can see the appeal but the one I tried he talked about his **** and balls for like a half hour and I gave up. I’m no prude and definitely appreciate a good penis joke but it was too much even for me. I don’t need a 5 minute explanation of what his balls look like

The Confused Breakfast

3 guys from the Cedar Rapids area who review nostalgic movies from the 80s and 90s. Definitely worth a listen.

Also
Secretly Incredibly Fascinating

The guy just picks a seemingly random, boring topic, and does a bunch of research on its history to show why it's a lot more interesting than you originally thought.
The Confused Breakfast is fantastic. Thank you for that one. Those guys do a good and entertaining job.
