I really hope Booker can play. CG was one of my favorite players in a while, total bummer.

Yep, Booker (and Railey) just became way more important for next season. We'll see more minutes from each of them, and probably see Ejim at the 4 quite a bit next season again, as we only have 3 big men, one of whom (Railey) is still developing.

If the NCAA puts milk on their banned substances list, you best find another liquid to pour onto your Apple Jacks. Agree or not, hippie lettuce is illegal.
Exactly! It is amazing how c4rtain people jusrt don't understand that you have to play by the rules when you sign scholly papers.

This is my random unfounded speculation for the day:

We all know Railey got into trouble twice. One was a DUI. IMO a DUI is far more serious than weed. At that point CG was presumably on his 3rd and last chance in terms of weed. Do you guys think the FH had a gut feeling that CG wouldn't be able to stay out of trouble and that's why he held on to Railey? Railey messed up in a much more serious manner IMO, however CG showed a blatant disregard for the rules and authority of Hoiberg. He is assumed to have done the same thing over and over again. As far as how it related to the program and FH, I do feel Godfrey showed that he didn't really care all that much.

I don't necessarily think that FH kept Railey around simply for the fact of Godfrey being close to gone, but I do think as a coach who desperately wants a needs to win, that thought at some point comes to your mind.

Why do people ignore the policy for student athletes? If you looked at the policy, you would see that Fred is strictly following policy. To generalize, it is a three strikes and your out policy. Godfrey has had three strikes. Railey hasn't.

I don't think anyone has said he isn't have they? Are you trying to tell me Fred would have been out of line to boot Railey? I think he made the right decision but I highly doubt anyone (including the AD) would have been up in arms about it.

If I could play D1 ball and the coach said I had to refrain from eating mac & cheese my 4 years there, I'd be shifting my diet. I'd be eating cardboard and paste if that's what was required.

Whether you think it's right that purple urkel is illegal or not, it currently is. And because it is illegal there are rules and regulations for players, respect that it is currently illegal and JUST DONT DO IT.

Hoiberg did the right thing in this situation. Even though my opinions on the issue of legaliztion of mj are pro-legalization. Fact is, he had a full ride dependant on that he didn't fail drug tests or whatever. He didn't follow those rules, he gets what he knew could happen and wont be playing here.

No, you would say, "Screw it, I'll eat what I damn well please. Ain't no one tellin me what I can and can't eat." All because you would have been deemed special your whole life with every thing given to you, and never having consequences for your actions.

Boxerdaddy- Nowhere in this post have I defended CG for what he did, and he deserves what he got from Fred. My main issue is medical marijuana and those that oppose it. And yes I also think the government is crazy not to legalize it and tax it, raising billions and saving billions in the process.

Cykofan I agree 100% that marijuana is extremely helpful for cancer patients. I was not contending that at all and do believe it should be allowed for medicinal use. I was misunderstanding your intent then. I think we probably agree on most of this and apologies for not reading everything well.

I'm not shocked either. But it definitely sucks. Godfrey had such a big upside.
I was giddy thinking about him on the 2012-2013 team.
I'm really getting sick of a transfer or dismissal every few months. Its starting to sour me on college hoops, and I hate that. Here's to hoping we are really good next year and its exercises all of our demons.

Try this website for pointers on how to do that:

I wasn't going to post this for fear of derailing this thread - but too late now...

Been thinking about this all afternoon, does this help us recruiting a 2011 big or does another player's exit hurt our chances. I think 2012s class will depend on how we do next season but 2011s is more about other factors.

Well, in these situations, you just have to cut your losses with these types of players. There's no doubt about the potential and the future this guy had. He was playing really good ball down the stretch for us last year. When a 18 year old player makes a mistake, I understand that it is one mistake, but to make two more mistakes after the first one, it's time to move on. The game of basketball or the University of Iowa State was not as important as the marijuna that he smoked for the third time. At sone point I'm hoping Calvin looks back at this situation and learns from it. Coaching these guys and providing leadership to them on and off the court is extremely important. I know coach Hoiberg sat down and had a rather lengthy conversation last time (2nd offense). He chose to use the illigeal drug again and risked his future of playing basketball. It doesn't take a road scholar to figure out if you keep using it, you're going to get caught. I firmly believe that Hoiberg will be on the "Hot Seat" from here on out. There is way too much of this going on around the ISU bb program and the Iowa State basketball program is spiraling out of control. Fred needs to get this things fixed or else.

Honestly this just really bums me out. I loved having a player like Godfrey on the roster and was really looking forward to seeing him grow. Just sucks for everybody involved.

Thanks Boxerdaddy- I agree that CG had his chances and blew it, and Fred did what he had to do. A real blow for the team but it gives somebody else the chance to step up.
