Why? One is playing verybwell, the other isn't. Not sure you can say no question.

Personally I think McKay comes off bench for awhile.

Probably right that McKay comes off the bench for a while, but I think he'll eventually start. The thought that McKay would drop Hogue back to his natural 3 position would improve Hogue's game. Kind of like last year with Ejim.

Depends in match up but don't think it matters. I think at this point the guy who will be sitting more the most will be nader. I think hogue will play a lot more 3 but also a lot of 4. Front court minutes 4/5 in order:
1 Niang 33
2 mckay 32
3 hogue 10
4 Edozie 5

Wing/sf minutes:
1.Hogue 20
2. BDJ 18
3.nader 2

Backcourt minutes:
1. Morris 36
2. Long 20
3. BDJ 14
4. Thomas 10
5. Custer (spot/situational)

Overall mpg:
1. Morris 36
2. Niang 33
3. BDJ 32
4. Mckay 32
5. Hogue 30
6. Long 20
7. Thomas 10
8. Edozie 5
9. Nader 2
10. Custer <1
I imagine Fred will play some guys more or less in certain situations depending on fouls, performance and match ups but based on play to date and speculation in McKay this is how I would imagine the ideal average minute distribution once McKay is in full swing will be.

Nader 2 minutes a game?

Just my guess...

(will compete for All-Conference at their position, if not more)
30 Niang
30 BDJ
30 Morris

(solid starters/key role players)
25 McKay
25 Long
25 Hogue *sixth man

(sorry, Dustin, but the above five have plenty of size and energy, I just think Fred would want a second scoring guard and a knockdown shooter out there to control spacing for the offense)

(bench role players)
15 Thomas (situation bench scorer/shooter with some upside potential
10 Nader (maybe more later but, right now, just a short-term high-impact guy)

(spot minutes)
5 Edozie
5 Custer

We do have more depth, but Fred keeps a short bench. Very few teams rotation beyond 7-8 players, and seems we won't, either. Play your best guys. 40 minutes per night isn't that much for a 20 year old at the peak physical condition of his life. Ten guys will see the floor nightly, sure, but, really, it looks like something like this is what we'll see come conference.

Assuming McKay is as promised.

I would think the staff will try to get Mckay as many minutes as possible once he is available. They don't really have the time to bring him along slowly. Wasn't the South Carolina game scheduled primarily to have another game to work Mckay in?

He may not start against Drake, but he will be in early.

Not that this will happen, but I would start Naz at home and Hogue on the road. Naz's shooting was bad on the road last year and lights out at Hilton.

This could be a fun lineup in limited minutes

BDJ
Nader
McKay
Hogue
Niang

And for even more fun, sub Nader out for Edozie. I actually think that lineup could play well. Still enough ball handlers and assist monsters.

Feed edozer the ball so he can dunk and hang on rim like king Kong. Favorite edozie moments during Lamar game.

Nobody's "out". As has been said many times before, it really doesn't matter who starts on a Fred Hoiberg team. I doubt the players think that much about it.......at least I have never seen anything to say that they do.

Minutes will change, but who starts each game I think will depend on the team ISU is playing and match-ups. I can see if ISU needs more rebounding, Hogue will be in there (hopefully at the 3) and if more shooting is needed from the start, then Naz will start.

Nice problem to have though.

I would probably go with the F getting bumped over the G.

But Hogue isn't really a forward. He is just playing as one because we don't have 2 posts to start the game. I figure when MaKat gets on the floor, Hougie Bear will switch back to the 3.

Why do people think Hogue isn't playing well?

He is shooting over 60% from the floor, playing really good defense and has only had 1 bad game (Ya know, the one everyone played in.)

I don't think you can take Hogue from the starting lineup, too much to offer. Not saying Naz doesn't, but remember a 6th man by the family name of McGee? Naz is like that, but a more complete player. Nazareth of the bench for three.

Can't remember if Hogue and McKay played together at the same time for Indian Hills? Anyone? If so, I'm thinking it's Naz who sits out until Fred needs a shooter.

Yeah they played together for two years during the 2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons.

I think we can figure out how good McKay is going to be by just comparing his stats to Hogue's during his sophomore season at Indian Hills.

McKay-17.8 ppg/10.5 rpg/2.0 bpg
Hogue-12.9 ppg/5.2 rpg/2.0 apg

Indian Hills had 9 players sign to a D1 team after Hogue and McKay's sophomore season. That is ridiculous for any juco team to sign that many D1 players in one season. McKay led that team in minutes played, points, rebounds, and blocks.

I'm sure it will take McKay a few weeks to produce at a high level. Just like Nader he hasn't played in an actual game in 21-22 months.

I think by the time conference play starts the rotation will be:

PG: Monte 32 mpg(starter), Custer 8 mpg
SG: BDJ 8 mpg(starter), Naz 18 mpg, Thomas 14 mpg
SF: Hogue 10 mpg(starter), BDJ 22 mpg, Nader 8 mpg
PF: Niang 14 mpg(starter), Hogue 20 mpg, Nader 6 mpg
C: McKay 24 mpg(starter), Niang 16 mpg

Monte-32 mpg
BDJ-30 mpg
Niang-30 mpg
Hogue-30 mpg
McKay-24 mpg

Naz-18 mpg
Nader-14 mpg
Thomas-14 mpg
Custer-8 mpg
(Edozie getting minutes when we play a big team or when we are in foul trouble)

I think Fred will want a dead eye spot up 3 point shooter in the starting lineup at one of the guard positions. He's always used one since he got here to help create spacing. My guess is that Naz will continue to start and either McKay or Hogue will start depending on how we match up with an opponent's post players.

It really is a great problem for Freddy to have.
