He looks better than most of the (completely inept) bigs LE (Schaper, Skoglund, on and on) and McDoormat (Cory Johnson, Mann, Pomlee, Vette) recruited. I'll take it.

I agree. I haven't read thru all the posts but watching the clips of him on the sports last night I immediately thought of Jared Homan. Good size and he put the ball on the floor and drove well to the hoop for a big kid, and he may be further along than Jared was at this point.

You mean it would be like that if people argued how good Bush or Obama would be prior to them having served a day...in other words, spot on.

I haven't seen a single person say they think he will be good. Just that its not a big deal to take a chance on him and maybe it'll work out. It's so stupid to rip the guy without knowing how good or bad he'll be. Completely pointless. The rational ones are taking a wait and see approach, since, you know, no one has seen him play.

A 6'8" guy with some offensive ability and defensive potential. He won't crack our rotation this year so he should definitely redshirt. Not sure why he isn't going to. It's June, and with the greek's scholarship up in the air we could've been short 3 practice bodies. For that reason alone I like the addition. Save the last 1 (or 2) for a mid year transfer that way we don't run into another McKay situation where he has to pay for a semester.
good question on the red shirt. Here could be why. When a player uses a redshirt up first year they lose a year of eligibility if they transfer and sit out a year. In today's basketball not many will redshirt then play four years at one school. With AAU ball kids are more developed basketball players than in the past. If they don't play year one playing year five is unlikely. In that light, plenty that don't get playing time will transfer if they have a redshirt for the sit out year. On the other hand, if you redshirt a developmental player you are more likely to be stuck with them for five years if they don't pan out. Not red shirting is the polite way to give kids options.

Not to mention the "mid-major" Iowa talent we passed on that wern't so "mid" (McDermott, Tuttle, Korver etc.). Kid could be really special or a bust that transfers out. Either way he helps the team this year and it is no real risk. This is exactly the time to roll the dice on a kid like this. It's like gambling with house money.

Or, he could fall in between the spectrum and be a guy who is a role/bench player for his whole career who averages 6 points and 4 rebounds per game. IMO every good program needs those kinds of guys too.

I actually liked Cory Johnson. Tough kid that had some nice upside.

are you suggesting the scouting sites haven't seen him play? My bball opinion is pretty meaningless but I wouldn't say that about outfits like rivals and scout.

If this is just a reach to fill a roster spot because of limited options caused by the coaching change, it's ok. If this is the norm it's a problem, which has yet to be seen. I'll wait and see how Prohm's recruiting plays out in the next year.

I was referring to the experts on this site. How many of us had even heard of this kid a week ago? I have no idea what rivals, scout or any of the other sites say about him. However, if Ben Jacobsen thought he was worthy of an offer, the kid probably can play. That is worth more than any scouting site or anyone's opinion on here.

When did we become UNI? Is everyone cool with this assessment? That whoever is good enough for UNI is good enough for ISU? Honest question.

That's not how I interpreted his statement at all. I just think he was sayin that if Jacobsen offered he at least has the potential to be a solid player. Nobody thinks we should be fighting to be UNI.

But. Jacobsen competes with a little (wink, wink) less talent on a game-to-game basis. The fact that he offered this kid does not mean that ISU should be going after him. That does not mean the kid can't play, it simply means that you better not offer him because Jacobsen did.

Ben Jacobsen seems to have an eye for potential. He's not winning with a roster full of blue chips over there.

Do we want their roster? Hell no. We play a completely different style.

How could you read it any other way? Maybe he'll clarify.

l looked at it as an end of the bench and reach/development type player having Jacobsen interested means he fits that role and could eventually develop. Obviously we should be getting more talented players than UNI and if the only guys we recruit are of that caliber then there is an issue. In this specific situation it is not an issue

According to UNI fans he no longer had a UNI offer.

As for your question, when the previous staff was no longer committed to recruiting for the future of ISU past 14-15.

jacobson has taken UNI to 3 tournaments in 9 years. granted, he got screwed by the McDermott deal and they have consistently been tough, but he hasnt exactly lit it up.

Still waiting for those lists of players some of these big-mouthed experts on this site think ISU should have gone after. It is obvious that ISU has to replace Williams somehow for this year........and the coaches also felt that way. So, those of you who keep criticizing this move........who would you have gotten......knowing you need someone? Please......share your expert knowledge with us all.......or shut the hell up. This is just getting ridiculous, and seriously, I really don't think some of you are ISU fans at all.
