I'm not too impressed with what I've seen just looking at his recruiting rankings, offers, stats at La Tech, etc.
I'm hoping this isn't the kind of recruit Prohm thinks you go after at a Big 12 program like Iowa State. Now, I admit I could be completely wrong on this kid because I don't know the story behind him at all. He just seems like a La Tech level player to me, and not a Big 12 level player, that's all.
Wait, what do you mean? I think you could be on to something.Yeah that Kane guy who came from that low level Marshall school didn't pan out either.
That's fine with me, but I will need to see more than just dunks. Dunking doesn't impress me a whole lot... nearly every college basketball player can dunk.
Why? College basketball is a guard dominated game. We will be fine.
i love Fred and i would take him and his lack of interest in recruiting back tomorrow. But he screwed over prohm and tj by not quitting in March. It would have been so easy with the surgery. The new coach whoever it was was never going to have a chance.
I wouldn't say Fred screwed Prohm over, I would say the Bulls front office likely did. The fact that they were toying with Thibs on trying to generate a trade deal lengthened the process out longer than it needed to be. That's on the Bulls, not Fred.
Probably a stupid question, but does anyone know how the visit is going? Typically, some of the current players tweet things out - I wonder if CSP put a stop to that? Seems very quiet. If it wasn't for Rothstein, I wonder if we would even be aware of the visit taking place currently.
true. But I think everyone knows that they were going to fire thibs. And hire Fred.
Fred knew he was gone, told recruits that, and was apparently upfront with his players. Quitting at the time of the surgery would have helped whoever replaced him. And would have helped Iowa state. I wish he would have done that.
Weird thing is Rothstein broke the news and not CW or Hines. Hines was quick to confirm it and say he was on campus but when Fred was here local guys always seemed to get first dibs on leaking it
There was no good way to leave for Fred. It's unreasonable to quit your job for an offer that may or may not come. It is what it is. It sucks and it definitely hurt recruiting, but it was inevitable at some point.

You probably thought Deandre Kane "just seemed like a Marshall level player" too, didn't you?
Possibly... I can't really remember what I thought about Kane at the time of his recruitment. Although, didn't he put up some gaudy numbers at Marshall?
As I stated, I don't know much about this kid, other than his offers and stats, etc.... so I hope he is some kind of diamond in the rough rising star that I don't know about.
I'm in no way saying he won't be a good get.... he could very well be. I'm just saying that on paper this isn't the level of player we should be recruiting IMO.
Who's to say what Bubu or Naz Long could do against crappy competition night after night? That's all I'm saying. Maybe Kane is an upgrade, but maybe he isn't. What if he's not as good a teammate as Bubu or Naz Long are?
The thing is, none of us know if we are just adding Kane, or if we are going to be losing someone else. What if SDW isn't coming back for instance? He's never even played in a game that counted yet, but I'd MUCH rather have him over Kane if those are my choices.
Not if we lose someone else it isn't. Kane is about the equivalent of Bubu or Naz Long IMO. So if we lost one of those two it would be about a wash bringing him in. I know people will say I'm crazy to think that Bubu or Naz are as good as Kane, but they very well could be. What would Bubu or Naz do in the MAC Conference. Probably tear it up pretty good.
And other scholarship players on our team, if they were to not be here, would be a net loss IMO with the addition of Kane. And no, I'm not saying Kane isn't a good player that I'm glad we got, I'm just comparing him to others on scholarship.
Losing a Matt Thomas, Monte Morris, or SDW would be a MUCH bigger net loss IMO, just to the fact that these 3 have 4 years of eligibility remaining and look to have very bright futures. Niang and Ejim aren't even in the debate whatsoever. Losing either of those two would be catastrophic.
And according to Fred himself, all 4 JUCO's are going to be here. So we know it's none of them.
All I'm saying is that the addition of Kane is awesome, as long as we aren't losing anyone else. If we are losing someone else, I could possibly be a net loss, or at best a wash IMO.
No. Can you read? All I said is that dunking has NOTHING to do with someone being a good basketball player.
But go ahead and read into it what you want to. Most people do. Unreal.
I think most people agree with you. But I don't. From what we know now, there was never any doubt that he was going to leave. If for some odd reason the job didn't open up, it isn't like taking a year off would be devastating to a guy who had major surgery and whose heart obviously wasn't in the job he had.
Its not not really an issue at this point but if we are going to ***** about prohms recruiting then we need to acknowledge whose fault it is that prohm lost over 2 months of time recruiting. And that's Fred.
