Is this going to be like the OC hire, where eventually Campbell just announces that the LB coach or something is also going to have the title of DC too?

Maybe, maybe not. But if it is, it will be a guy who is 100% committed to Campbell and the rest of the staff. No matter who it is. The staff will come up with the defensive plan and it will be implemented by the DC. You know the best OC and DC are the guys who place responsibility on those who work for him. I dont want oc or dc who does it all.

I'll go out on a limb and say Heacock isn't it. I routinely check the Toledo football site and it wasn't until just yesterday that Eli's name was taken off their roster while Heacock remains and I think he WILL remain.

No biggie but I am curious what the new direction is.

Time to face it guys. We will be the first team ever that doesn't have a defensive coordinator.

Football Scoop has stated that Toledo has hired 2 defensive positional coaches today - LB and DB. The LB coach played at Mt Union and also coached at Youngstown State, but he wasn't there when Heacock was coaching. Either way, an announcement on Heacock's future should be made any day now.

Well we don't have a DC yet so that means our DC is still coaching during a bowl game.

1) it must be someone familiar with Iowa State
2) has been a DC for a P5 team.
3) has Coached strong defenses
4) can recruit the south

I see one candidate that fits all of these. Gene Chizik come on down!!!! Time to redeem yourself.
Time to get firmly entrenched again!

Read an article about Chizik in USA Today in which he "wouldn't discuss offers" and said all the nothings except "firmly entrenched."

We already minted the coins so it's really just his salary and all the extra security to surround him.

It's not a big deal that we don't have a DC yet. We've had the maximum allowed staff out recruiting anyway and it's a dead period right now...so doesn't matter. We won't lose a single commit because Heacock isn't coming if that's the case because they committed before he's even be here! lol. My understanding is that he has kids in HS and they may not be all that thrilled with leaving....happens. That would be the only reason why IMO. He could cosch at a P5 level and make at least double.

We will have a DC by next Monday at the latest.

Was "reported" by another poster from another board that JP said in a recent call-in show that all the coaches have been hired and are just waiting for bowl games to announce the moves.

If this is true then the team has yet to play because if the coach has been hired it would be announced very shortly after the end of the game. Of the teams left it probably means promoting a position coach from another team.

Nice work 3 gen.........I like the connection you found.......I am very intrigued by this hire. Cmc moved so fast at every other hire that his deliberate action on the DC feels odd

Up late with my 1 year old so I figured I'd look up some other potential candidates. One name that sticks out is Steve Clinkscale - Co DC/DB coach @ Cincinnati. Has ties to Toledo and Illinois. Has been at Cincy since 2013.

Interesting connection, but that wouldn't fit with the theory it is someone who is coaching in a bowl game. They played on Christmas Eve. Probably would have been announced by now if it was him.

I think they are waiting for Heacock to decide. Interesting connection to Clinkscale. Coaches a similar position group as Heacock and has some co-DC experience.

I agree with this, but it doesn't fit with what JP apparently said about all hires being complete. Unless they had an agreement with Heacock and now he is waffling a bit.

Also, recall that day someone posted the screen shot of Heacock and his family on the jumbotron at jts

Jamie could have easily said that meaning that Iowa State had their choice ready to go and playing in a bowl game. And the picture on the jumbotron could have easily been there when Heacock was visiting and they were trying to convince him.

Sometimes people are far, far too literal on here.

I'm sure that Heacock was the first choice and they are waiting for him to decide if he wants to move his family. I highly doubt that anyone else is in the picture and if Heacock decides against coming here, I would look to a current Toledo assistant that is on our staff to be promoted to DC, much like Manning was when the other guy got the Toledo job.

I think that Heacock is waffling. He has children in school who want to stay in Toledo. IMO, Matt Campbell has a plan in place if Heacock does not come to ISU.

The name Heacock rings a bell. Wasn't he the D coordinator at OSU under Tressel?

Edit: Nevermind, different Heacock.
