I wonder about the choice to show him "farms" while he was here. Perhaps that was a less than wise decision. Point out the turf in the stadium and talk about the students who intern at the Super Bowl.
When you're trying to woo a student (and his parents) think carefully about the impression you want to leave - I'm not sure showing him farms was a good use of his time here. Regardless, he made his decision. We'll all live with it.

Has the turf at the stadium been replaced from the Drake game?

I don't know of one with a business degree from Iowa.
If he wants to go to Iowa due to their history with sending linemen to the NFL, thats fine by me.

Ok. I happen to know of some with degrees from Iowa, Simpson, etc. But carry on ragging on a kid for his decision to go to a different school for several reasons that he discussed with no malice toward Iowa State or the CALS.

Just got home from a college visit today for my son going into Ag Bus. Nobody showed us a farm so I’m not sure what he’s talking about. I never saw the farms either and I have my Ag bus degree.

Regardless of what he said, I bet if the number of NFL players were reversed he'd be a Cyclone. It's hard to ignore.

It really makes no sense. If he want's to be in Ag retail, or Ag at all, going to Iowa is not the better educational decision. It may not be of much significance, but there's no reason Iowa would be a better option. Career recruiters, itself, would be a huge ISU advantage.

That said, I don't care. Seems like a good kid who did the mature thing and called Campbell. Good for him.

If a salesman came to my farm wearing U of I crap, I would laugh at him and ask him if his GPA was too low to get into ISU, and study ag. Like my daughter said, her Sat score was to high to get into Iowa.

I think he just meant that he was a hobby farmer and that he didn't necessarily want to go all in as a career. I think he just wants a business degree.

It is nothing to get outraged over, but it does seem rather stupid. ISU has an AG Business program as well as a business college and its academics are not inferior to Iowa's. The quote makes it appear he is saying anyone going to ISU would be ill-equipped for a career in seed or chemical sales. Nothing could be further from the truth. He can choose whatever school he wants for whatever reason he wants. The quote does not make him appear particularly perceptive if it is indeed a truthful statement.

I mean he's from Cedar Rapids. Of course he thinks Iowa is a better school. It will ALWAYS be a Hawkeye State.

I agree his input on his academic decision seemed contrived. He chose Iowa because he grew up loving that school, and they have a great track record with o-linemen.

I also agree with the earlier poster about not taking him to see a farm when he visited ISU.
