You couldn't do an everyother year game in the series. If the schools were to take a break (which is incredibly dumb) it would have to be a 2 years on 2 years off deal. This would give Iowa their chance to schedule N Illinois at Soldier Field.
Barta won't let us out of the series. We already tried and he said no so not sure why it keeps getting discussed
In my original response I did mention this being a topic that's been brought up in the past. It's now coming to light again and I honestly do believe it's a just a coincidence that Iowa State is immensely better than they have been. Either way, it doesn't matter because the game is here to stay for a long time. This isnt a new topic for Iowa fans, not sure why you think it is.
I like the game and think it should stay but this just didnt pop up in the few months.
This has been true 3 times in the past 10 seasons.
LOL there is zero chance or validity that we tried to back out of a game that has brought us 2 of the 5 largest crowds in JTS history. That would be absolutely silly for us to do.
Your stats are flipped around. Try 6-7 of the last 10. That even includes the year we got throttled and you fell to the juggernaut that is NDSU.

Scott Dochterman from the Athletic has an article online today stating that "It’s frustrating for Iowa fans to watch their rivals compete against powerhouse Power-5 opponents while the Hawkeyes’ only major-conference foe every year is Iowa State."
This list makes sense. Arizona was pretty good those years, NIU had it's best seasons and even played in the Orange Bowl one of those years, we were garbage in 2014 and 2015 (beat Iowa in '14 btw), NDSU was an absolute powerhouse, and the last two years we've been good. Not gonna argue with that.Using Sagarin's ratings, below is a list of the toughest OOC game the last 10 seasons for Iowa.
2009- Arizona
2010- Arizona
2011- Iowa State
2012- Northern Illinois
2013- Northern Illinois
2014- Pitt
2015- Pitt
2016- ND State
2017- Iowa State
2018- Iowa State
Wisconsin and Minnesota play home and homes with much worse programs.
Minnesota would love to do it. They'd get another sell out in TCF that year (in addition to whomever they play between Iowa and Wisconsin at home).
Every other year in Ames would be just fine by me!https://theathletic.com/1106742/201...ent-scheduling-position-battles-nate-stanley/

We tried to do a home and home with Arkansas and Barta threatened to sue if we got out of the series just for the two years
ISU and Iowa fans are both delusional on who they’d actually be able to replace that game with. ISU isn’t going to get Wisconsin or Minnesota to agree to a home/home nor is Iowa going to get Oklahoma or Notre Dame like they think they would. Even if either school could get a high profile game, itd take 7+ years to get it on schedule and who knows what would change in that time.
West Virginia plays NCST as well as Missouri this year. If we wanted to do something like that we definitely could. I think it would be a cool thing to do every so often but I like consistently having an automatic two wins instead of only one.Really? We couldn't get deals with Wazzu, Oregon St., Kentucky, NCSt, Miss St., Pitt, Rutgers, BC, or L-Ville? And what about some nostalgia series with CU, NU? I think we could convince Minnesota too.
I understand that scheduling requires setting up dates out into the future but these P5 schools scheduling series seems pretty low risk to me.
