Just for conversation's sake, how do we know none of the sources weren't platers?

We don't know if they were players, Tuco, the Hawk trolls, etc. We don't know their motives for saying what they said. And Hines did not bother attempting to get the AD's perspective until the day of publication.

And knowing how some of those "facts" by Hines have been twisted to meet the purposes of the sources, I am not inclined to believe what Hines says. I may not believe everything Pollard says, but I believe Hines exaggerated the Hawaii thing on purpose.

very well could be. I will say, his piece does lack "objectivity" considering the subject matter. Again, let's all remember the editor has final say. They get paid a substantial amount to have the "finger on the button" when it comes to publish.

Enough already. It's time to get back to the upcoming bb season. There are too many GOOD stories to follow up on then letting this fire smolder forever.

Again, this needs to be posted over and over. Along with Fred telling Travis "if you go with the story I will tell everybody it's not true". That's the only "comment" that Hines should have needed.

Why was this never made into a pole? I'm curious what the percentages would. I think Hines' piece was very bad journalism, but he provides us with way to much awesome material for me to want him fired.

Maybe Fred and Jamie said refused to comment because they thought the story would go away if they gave it no credence. If they even entertain the though the of the story, even by denying, it gives the writer and editor more ammo and incentive to publish using their quotes, basically creating the conflict of pitting the anonymous source(s) against the comments of the coach/AD. I'm sure Hoiberg and Pollard thought if they just sat tight and didn't open up, Hines/The Trib would determine there wasn't enough to the story and drop it.

Obviously that didn't happen so Fred opened up for comment at the end by absolutely refuting everything. Hines obviously ignored this and went to print without Fred's comments.

Sorry, but I'm siding with Fred and Jamie here. Regardless of how often during the writing and fact finding process you are rebuffed for getting comments on the record, when a major possible source of the story changes their mind and agrees to go on record, you delay the article if necessary and put his comments in there.

Totally disingenuous by Hines to claim that he wasn't available for comment, when he obviously was, even though it may have been too late to meet his predetermined deadline.

Just goes to show in this "give it to me now" 24/7 news cycle world, meeting your deadline and getting views and notoriety for being first is more important than honest journalism. Sad.

Has Travis been fired yet? I rest my case.

Wesley made a case? I thought Wesleybot only posted links. I didn't think bots could form opinions. AI is getting much better!

Like a stop sign pole? A Festivus pole?

I am so sick and tired of all these smart *** comments that people always make when they clearly know what someone is talking about. So many people think they're so damn funny. I got a lotta problems with you people! Now, you're gonna hear about it!

the thread was only started as pitchforks were in high demand, and I decided to setup a shop selling them. So I didn't have any intention to put up a Pol.

This was an article that was meant to promote the writer. This was intended to be Hines' breakout piece, his leap from regional Iowa beat writer to national college basketball commentator. It just so happened to come at the expense of our favorite team, and without the success of that team and its obsessive and often crazy fans, Travis Hines has zero audience.

Translation: **** you, Travis Hines.
