Talley is not going to contribute next year. And there was mention last week by reporters that no one knows how Shayok is developing...
I have no doubt ISU will be more experienced but there is still going to rebuilding process with all the new guys. As previously stated, it all depends how quickly they gel.

Every report I have heard about Shayok from the media has been glowing and the staff thinks he'd be ISU best player if eligible this year. The recent reports that Prohm is very impressed with Jacobson tell's me he's exceeding expectations and already has earned a role. I expect both to be better than at UVA/NU having a year to just work on improving their games.

We should underestimate having those two practicing in the system this year and learning to play with Wigginton/Lard/NWB/Young all year should accelerate their ability to play well together early.

Travis Hines so desperately wants the Cyclones to be bad year in and year out. I don’t put a lot of stock into him. Plus saying he hasn’t heard how Shayok has developed doesn’t really tell us anything at all. The staff has done nothing but praise Shayok.

K-State has basically everyone coming back and will be a solid team. Texas they will have everyone come back, except Bamba and will have a deep team. Baylor has a solid core behind those guys and Scott Drew finds a way( made the tourney 9 out of the last 10).

I guess you never know with Scott Drew, but struggling to see how you wouldn't expect Baylor to experience a down year after losing Lecomte, Lual-Acuil, Omot, and Maston. That's 2/3 of their scoring in those 4 seniors.

Drew currently has a couple nice pieces in his recruiting class but it's still only 6th in the Big 12 and 50th nationally.

Looks like Conditt needs to work on lateral movement as he is the one THT blew by on the first play, but THT has a tendency to blow past a lot of people.
Conditt will for sure redshirt I believe. Wouldn’t be surprised if Haliburton does as well.

Sooners lose Trae Young and don’t really have a strong class signed. Wouldn’t be surprised at all to finish ahead of them. West Virginia will be down as well.
Young is definitely a huge loss for them, and Lattin is a decent big man. That said, they'll return some solid players and it looks like the #10 SF (#51 overall) 2018 recruit will end up there. They're trying hard to get the #5 PG as well.

Not buying WVU being down either. They'll return 3 double digit scorers (Konate will be a beast), 6 of their top 8 players, and bring in a pair of 4 stars.

I find it funny a couple posters are talking about Shayok's development. The guy is senior who is a proven power 5 starter coming from one of the best programs in college basketball. How much more development are we wanting from him?

As far as the rotation, Im going with the standard...

Wiggington
Babb
Shayok
Young
Lard

Talley and Jacobsen eat up most of the frontcourt minutes off the bench. THT is our 6th man, kind of how Niang and Monte started off their careers, but if hes good enough I could see him starting by the end of the year.

Griffin probably wont see alot of minutes next year in a crowded frontcourt, if I were Prohm i would tell Lewis and Long to strictly practice 3 point shots all summer. The other two freshman are resdshirt candidates.

Maybe I am a little too optimistic but I will be a little disappointed if we are not better than an 8 seed.

I think our ceiling will be much higher than those 3 seed lines as well.

I'd still consider us a younger team next year.

I'm a firm believer that the future is bright.

OU and WVU are the hardest teams for me to project. At the end of last year, OU's young guys were coming on nicely. James, Doolittle, Odomes and McGusty were all playing real well by the end of the year. This year has just been such an odd year for them with Young. It's hard to tell if those guys have really developed at all. I have no idea what to expect from them next year when Young is gone.

As for West Virginia, losing Miles and Carter will hurt. However, I guess I'm not as big on Carter as most. They return Ahmad (assuming he doesn't leave), Konate, West, Harris and Allen, who are all good players. I just struggle to see them taking a step back if all those guys stay.

To me, this is the quintessential rebuilding year that we have avoided for a long time due to transfers. Your concern with losing Jackson is not a concern for me. He is a 6th man on a good team forced to be a senior leader this season. He doesn't have it in him for that imo. We have a very young team and the majority of the older players are all new to the team as well so them not gelling or playing consistently is expected. Make no mistake the ass kickings they are taking this year is very helpful to building their character and forcing them out of their comfort zone to grow as players and as a team. I am betting ISU finishes top 3 in conference next season. Every player in the depth chart next season minus Tucker will have B12 experience which is very important.

PG: Babb (I am betting Tucker will get close to 10min a game in Big 12 play giving Babb a chance to play other positions)

SG: Wiggington, It's my hope this year will give him a boost in court IQ and knowing how to play a more team oriented style. I believe we will see some of Tucker and Lewis at this position as well.

SF: Shayok, the leader this team needs and what will be the glue to this team. I firmly believe he will be a huge leader for next years squad. I believe we will also see some Zion and Talley at this position as well.

PF: Lard, Will be a monster. A go to guy for points when we need it. Wigginton and Shayok will be experienced enough and talented enough by this time to draw defenders and double teams opening Lard up for countless big nights. His ability to run the floor is very difficult to defend. Off the bench, I am guessing we will see Talley and Jacobson get time here too.

PF: Young, I have come around to Young probably starting over Talley but not necessarily getting more minutes. Talley wont play here but I expect young to be the same guy more or less with maybe better court vision and improvement around the rim. I think Jacobson gets time in the position as well.

As for anyone else, I could see some spare minutes but there wont be as many open opportunities for playing time like this season.

I think this teams biggest weakness is experience and not playing with each other long enough to anticipate their teammates actions and abilities. More than anything, I want Wiggington to understand this with regards to Lard as that duo could do some serious damage offensively.

...just having eight Big 12 players is going to be so nice compared to this year. We have that many period. We have some good pieces, but not enough, and we have no ability to absorb foul trouble, fatigue, or injury in a way that does not wreck the team.

The above, which is eminently reasonable, already looks so much better.

Thanks guys.

I've wondered the same thing, but at the same time Wiggy is looking solid as a 3 point shooter and Shayok is above average. At this point I'd settle for a steady 12-15 ppg from Shayok as opposed to the roller coaster DJack give us. I love the kid but it's tough to get 25 one night and 6 the next, and if he can't hit from 3 his value greatly diminishes. My GUESS is that Shayok will be a lot better finishing around the rim, and that may well make up for any drop off in 3 point shooting as opposed to Jackson, plus I'd be more than willing to be that he'll be a much better and more flexible defender.
Agreed on that. I think Shayok's overall game (both off and def) will be enough of an improvement over Jackson that it'll be a plus for the team.

I definitely agree with you.

I'm definitely not ready to write off Lewis either. Once the game slows for him a bit he can be a nice piece to the puzzle.

I don't think that is what he's trying to say.
I agree, but Hines used the phrase 'nonzero chance' incorrectly for what he was trying to get across haha. I just like to point out when Hines is wrong sometimes:)

fwiw, I think Marial is going to be our most important piece next year. Even when he doesn't have huge offensive games, he will always be a rock for us and a nice leadership presence. And that is the biggest piece that we are missing this year.

You're right Talley will contribute. Travis Hines made mention that there has been little information shared on Shayok and his development.

Lol Hines is your “reporters” that you mentioned in your earlier post. What’s Randy Pete saying?

I will bet you money Talley contributes next year. He's a nice role player who has great length and runs the court well. Sure, he could definitely improve his shot, but he will still be utilized. Also, did you not watch Shayok at Virginia? Who said he needs to develop? He's going to be a senior LOL. That kid has some talent and wasn't in the best offensive system. From what many have said, he was the best player in the CAP City league.

I haven’t read many replies yet on here but I don’t think people realize just how much injuries have affected this team...players this year that have missed multiple games:

Babb
Lard
Brase
Tally
J Long

Half the roster....HALF.

Know how badly that disrupts continuity? It’s devastating to a season.

Wts, Shayok is stud and Jacobsen will be upgrade over Brase add to that a healthy Babb with arguably best recruiting class we’ve seen coming in and things will be just fine tysm.
