I am hoping he told the staff during his official visit that he was planning to go to Baylor. I am hoping that with the coaching change and his teammate currently a firm ISU commit that we can get one from Michigan. Come on down, Kellen Jones!

Wasn't that impressed with the kid anyways. Didn't look like a Big XII, LB to me from his videos. I think he could have played DE, but not LB.
Before you know it Baylor will turn into the SMU of the 2010's. I call for the 'death penealty'.
Sucks because I think he could've been a good LB, but if that opens up a scholly for another player that we can fill there is a silver lining.
haha, Kellen is a firm Michigan commit. The only reason he was ever wavering was because he hadn't been told if his offer still existed. He isn't leaving. I wish he was, but he isn't.
ISU was also not recruiting the kid. Even if he de-committed from Michigan, he still wouldn't be a Cyclone.

He has already started upgrading the talent on our defensive front. He just needs to continue making progress. Boyd I could give or take, but I'm not going to mention the names that I really don't want to see poached from us.
What really bothers me about Boyd was that he was a true middle linebacker. So was Cqulin Hubert, who did the same thing on signing day a year ago. He has been committed for so long that the staff doesn't have--and likely won't be able to create--a viable backup option.
And Matt Tau'fo'ou will complete his eligibility a year from now, when a redshirt (or player who has spent a year on special teams) would be in a marvelous place to grab a starting spot. I suppose a really good true freshman could come in and compete, but this signals "2012 juco transfer" to me--and I wish that we would be able to stop the continual patching, and build from four year strength.
However, that's a year from now. Who knows what will happen.
Besides--who knows? Maybe the staff was creating space for Curt Maggitt--or Tony Steward! There we go--think positive! :biggrin:
Obviously we don't know yet, but I think the talent in the LBer core is going to be very good. I think they will be the strength of our defense in the time to come. The front four, yes, we need some help there but I just don't think we will see what we have until the guys have been here for 2-3 years. A guy like Irving isn't going to come in and make an immediate impact. We can just hope in his 3rd year here he is making an impact.
I know this guy and his family and this was a very difficult decision for Kyle, he loved everything about Iowa State, the coaches, the warm welcome he recieved and family feeling Ames has, the athletic department, academics, and he really loved the weather, he is a hunter, so the 2 go hand in hand.
This is a guy with a very strong family ties, a christian heart, very smart, and has a good head on his shoulders. He has lived Iowa State the past year and was very very committed to their school and team. However, sometimes you have to dig deep inside and make uncomfortable decisions, and knowing this guy, it wasn't easy.
Given the same offer at a Home State Christian University that you have grown up around, that is only an 1 1/2 hrs from home, what decision would you make??

I'm sure at the time of the commitment Rhoads told Boyd that he had to be 100% commited to being a Cyclone. From what Rhoads has said he expects commits to hold their commitment in the highest honor and expects these commits to be true to Iowa State. I understand that people can change their mind and make a mistake but I dont understand why Kyle commited in June if he wasnt 100% sure he wanted to be a Cyclone. That is why others and myself find it hard to respect his decision.
So what you are saying is he switched because we were his #2 choice all along. Pretty sad move by the kid IMO. Hope he enjoys the Wackos in Waco.
Along with the dishonor of backing out of your commitment, its pretty dishonorable of Baylor to continue recruiting an already committed player.
Yeah, well, Baylor was talking to him before he committed so if he always wanted to go there, he should have held off. I'm sure he is a good kid and all, but he had said he was cutting off contact and he took a visit.
So it was dishonorable for us to pick up Shontrelle from NU? In both cases here I think it was the recruit who contacted the school.
I disagree on that. I mean, there are lines you don't cross with negative recruiting and such but this is a business. I myself would like to see an early signing period. I would also like the signing to be binding between both the school and the player. Right now, LOIs are one sided and are definitely not in the best interest of the players. Everyone recruits already committed guys, it's just hwo it works.
Baylor fan here. This is a result of our new DC, Phil Bennett. He must have looked at film at some Texas guys to see about handing out any last minute offers since taking over a couple weeks ago. Baylor fans are not exactly wowed by the commitment, considering his light offer sheet, but trust Bennett's judgement. Can't exactly blame a guy from Texas jumping on a Big 12 offer from an in-state school. Frankly, it would be kind of depressing for Baylor to not be able to beat out Iowa State or most North schools for players from our own backyard. Texas pride runs deep, so seeing Texas players even choose Oklahoma schools over any school in Texas is a little bit of an insult.
Rhoads is a great coach so yall should be just fine with players from your own neck of the woods.

Don't commit until you're ready to commit. It may be something that everyone does, but that doesn't make it right.
Let's not even compare Iowa HS players with Texas HS talent. Kid was committed since June. There's no excuse for this. Shows a poor reflection of character from this kid.
