i love Fred and i would take him and his lack of interest in recruiting back tomorrow. But he screwed over prohm and tj by not quitting in March. It would have been so easy with the surgery. The new coach whoever it was was never going to have a chance.
Yeah, Hoiberg really screwed over Prohm by leaving him with a roster that will be preseason Top 5. WHAT A JERK! Come on, people. Pull yourself together. This can't be a real belief, can it?!?

Fred wasn't doing his job though. Pretty reasonable to say Fred ****ed over the program when he was not able or willing to do his job and was potentially interviewing for other jobs. Chizik had more integrity.

This is one of the worst posts I've ever read on here, and that is an accomplishment.

Just stop. take a deep breath, and think about what you just said. It is hilarious if you actually think that is true.

You only need 2 studs or all Conf type players to be a top 15-20 team. The rest are decent role players.

Dude is a moron and a Hawkeye/Jayhawk troll. has zero clue what he is talking about and thinks he knows everything. Do not even read his posts.

It's business.

Fred being out due to surgery is not what I was referencing.

I just love this weird revisionist history where Fred should have basically quit immediately following the UAB game. Do I think it was probably 95% in the bag that he was getting offered the Bulls job? Yes. But can you imagine the cluster**** that would have went down if he had quit in anticipation of that job and then something weird had happened with Chicago at the 11th hour? If he doesn't turn around and land another NBA job, that would be a disaster for everybody involved (ISU, Hoiberg, the new coach, current players, recruits, etc).

The 11th hour was long ago from the Bulls end.

Fred should not have come back even in your hypothetical- he was not able or willing to recruit- not that he would have wanted to IMO.

Not of this World
like I said, I think I'm one of a few people who think this. No big deal. But in the real world people that are wealthy can and do leave a job before securing another one. I think Fred should hVe done that.

By this post we can come to the conclusion that you are not wealthy since you obviously have no idea how wealthy people think.

This thread has fallen off the rails (not suprised). Any update on Stapleton? I heard that Prohm brought him to Aunt Maude's last night, but that's all I got.

Just stop. Seriously. Hoiberg has done more for ISU basketball than anyone in the history of the program. What was the guy supposed to do? Quit his job at Iowa State before the Bulls situation played itself out? Would you give up a 75 K a year job before you had assurance of employment elsewhere? Yeah now try 2.5 million a year. Guy earned the right to take his time on the BIGGEST decision of his life. Get out of here if y ou can't understand that. Hoiberg is pure class and you trashing him is 100% the opposite of class.

signed Kentucky, duke, Wisconsin ect ect. It takes both.

Signed, Craig Brackens.

Signed, Adam Woodbury and Aaron White.

The NCAA is a guards game. Of course bigs are important, but guards are the most important. It's just how the game is set up.

Anecdotal evidence isn't going to change that.

Preseason top-10 with nothing behind it and a very late start. Luckily Fred left this year, right?

Like almost every other coaching change in the history of coaching changes. ISU is NO different than any other school in this regard. Coaches come and coaches go. At differing times of the year. Recruiting happens non-stop whether its the soon to be gone staff or the soon to be arriving staff. Sometimes you're ahead of the game and sometimes you play catch-up.

But MY guess is we will be able to field a starting 5 this coming year with MAYBE a few guys available off the bench. And the year after that as well. Let Prohm work on his roster and let fred be the bulls coach. Fred has done everything he could ethically do for the program. We'll be fine.

So you can win with 5 guards on the floor at all times? It takes both.

I doubt we will ever know what the total truth is, but I find it hard to believe that Fred would do anything to harm ISU or the program.

Now....was he in a tough position? Absolutely. Imagine trying to recruit someone when you don't know, and can't say for sure that you are still going to be the coach. I guess some on here would just lie to the recruits or something.

I think his only option was to more or less suspend the recruiting, especially after Matt left, and kind of wait and see what developed with the Bulls position. If he was offered (which was likely, and he knew that) then he would have to decide whether or not to accept.

If he chose to leave, at least he was leaving the new coach a very good returning team for his first year at ISU. If he stayed.......then it may have been a mad dash to try and get some of the recruits to still commit for 2015, or at the very least land a couple of quality transfers. He would have had to find a good recruiter to replace Matt, then recruiting for 2016 would have to pick up. If the recruits were no longer there, then we would probably have been in for another year of transfers and jucos to fill out the roster for 2016.

I don't see how Fred could have stepped down earlier, or even if he had how that would have changed the situation much. Frankly, if he had quit earlier, it may have been an even bigger mess...especially in terms of the current team staying around.

Fred did not put ISU in a bad position.....the NBA season, and the management of the Bulls did that. They could have fired their coach right after the Cleveland series, but supposedly they didn't want him to get hired by another team....so they waited.

This may knock ISU back for a year or two, but I just hope that Prohm can continue his Murray State success here and capitalize for 2016 on what should be a great season next year. 2016 recruits and transfers are going to see ISU a lot next year. If ISU is as successful as we all expect them to be, I think Prohm will be in good shape for 2016 and beyond.

Relax.

Glancing through this thread I noticed a couple of things...

1. Clonedude believes he knows far more than he actually knows about this program, the recruiting process, recruiting classes, the staff, etc... Mods... please put him in timeout so he can stop polluting the board with bad information and statements of fact that are actually completely false.

2. Clonedude's posts are rubbing off on others. The more posts he had the collective maturity level of his fellow posters and their posts sharply declined.

3. Everyone wants answers for how 2016-2017 is going to go... We'll know in March of 2017 how it went so let's not get too wrapped up in this now and just enjoy this upcoming season which should be epic.
