ESPN's analysis of Niang says that he has a soft body and lacks conditioning. Says he'll probably never be able to contribute more than 25 minutes a game in college. Not really the kind of player that you'd think would fit in with our running style?

However... ESPN also thinks Elgin Cook is still coming to ISU... so take their word with a grain of salt.

Also, Niang says he wants to play Freddy ball and also says he wants to work hard on his conditioning and his strength. I'll take him at his word. Because we're going to be running and gunning Georges!

ESPN actually says "may" never play more than 25 minutes. 'probably' would suggest in all likelihood, but 'may' suggests it could go either way. And from the sounds of his interviews he knows this is a weakness and is prepared to work on it.

My hope is that outside of one or maybe two game changers per year, we don't have many guys playing more than 25 minutes.

If he dedicates to the weight room he has potential to be unstoppable. Great pick up for Fred and Cyclone Nation! Welcome to the fam!

ESPN also said he was on an unofficial visit this weekend. If true, that's the first I heard of it.

My favorite part about Niang is that he doesn't just use athleticism to outmatch lesser opponents. He uses skill to score and doesn't have to be more athletic than other players, which I believe will help him when playing against Big 12 competition.

Likely an outdated analysis. He has been very productive this spring against top-flight competition at prep school tournaments for Tilton and during Nike EYBL play for his BABC AAU team. His EYBL play is the main reason why his stock has recently blown up with several high-major offers.

I wouldn't put much stock into anything recruiting related on ESPN, they have a tendency to not keep up to date.

This may give you a more up to date idea on how he plays:

GEORGES NIANG CONTINUES TO PRODUCE AGAINST ALL COMPETITION; RECRUITMENT HEATING UP | NBE Basketball Report

The players that Niang tore up are ranked #11 and #13 in the country and are going to Duke and the other probably to UNC. He has shown he can play and play at a high level. This is a HUGE pickup. HUGE

Yeah, Alex Murphy and Kaleb Tarczewski. The kids he's playing against on a weekly basis are not chumps in any possible way. When I started reading articles on him and seeing that he was putting up huge numbers against the highest level of competition he quickly became one of my favorites. Really glad to see he committed.

I believe in a prior thread on this kid Chris said that Coach Hoiberg compared his game to Kevin Love. Not that he will be that good, but from all indications it sounds like a good comparison considering the report on Niang is that he may be a bit undersized but has a good motor, is very skilled and is a heady player with a knack for making smart plays and good decisions.

The fact that this was a player that this staff identified, and offered, early means that he was a priority.

He has gained more attention since that time, and hopefully will continue to improve his stature.

We will learn a lot about what this program will look like in the coming years. This is the type of player that Freddie apparently wants in the program.

As far as his other offers, if Turgeon thinks that this kid is a player, then that speaks to his toughness.

Of course since he is probably on the hot seat, we may never see his plan come to fruition....
