Obesity

cigarettes were cheap down south. I remember going to kentucky, $2.25 a pack a couple years ago, tennessee was 3 something. Put it to 8 bucks and more people would quit

Sure, but they won't do that. They will tack on to that based price. Think what you want but the government can use tobacco. If they price it higher than demand allows people won't buy it and they will have to back off. I don't necessarily disagree with that though because it is a persons fault they got addicted. I'm sorry but people can quit if they want to. I have seen it many times.

In that case you are punishing people who burn a ton of calories each day in order to "protect" the people who have no desire to live a healthy lifestyle. Makes no sense to me.

punishing poeple who burn a ton of calories? eat a loaf of bread, sheesh

Haha! You sound like my dad. He is really pushing me to buy one before we lose our right to bare arms. Well he at least thinks we will lose that right, but that's for another debate.

ever thought of bjj/wrestling/boxing/mt? Don't gotta be big to defend yourself, yeah intimidation factor is one thing, but hell it wont mean anything if they don't know how to throw a punch and still defend yourself (which years of boxing shown that no one knows how to unless they did some striking martial art before hand)

Why the hell should you, or the government, tell me what I should be eating? If I want to drink a freaking Mt. Dew it is absolutely insane that I should pay an extra tax on it because some people don't know how to maintain a healthy body.

i think a lot of people would be willing to watch their weight if you start taxing for things like sodas, fast food (unhealthy products), pastries, and chips.

Soda and fast food are taxed now in Iowa, doesn't seem to stop people from buying either one of them.

Sorry but martial arts is going to get it done from 20 feet. Don't bring a punch to gun fight.

This may send it to the cave but the thing with gun control is that you will only stop the honest from owning guns. Someone with the intent to use a gun isn't going to be sidetracked by the crime involved in obtaining a gun.

calm down there buddy, a tax wont kill you

you made a statement about punishing people that burn a lot of calories, unless your ronnie coleman or jay cutler (body builder, not football player), losing calories for drinking water instead of a mountain due wont hurt you at all.

different topic but he said he wanted to defend himself, in terms of gaining weight. He could be 140 lbs and use a gun and he wouldnt need to gain weight :P

Oh, ok, I agree then in those terms. I forgot he had said that.

Dear Mississippi,

Best way to lose weight:

1) Be active. Doesn't have to be 4-6 hours a day. Just 30-60 minutes.

2) Eat at home. More of having it your way at home than at Burger King.

I work with a woman who is morbidly obese. I always get a good chuckle when she starts talking to me about the pros and cons of the different buffets around the area. I guess Old Country Buffet has a less then stellar ice cream selection, who knew?

About a month back she decided she was going to start losing some weight so she started bringing in 3 Smart Ones frozen meals in for lunch each day (which she would absolutely destroy) and then talk all day about how great she is doing on her diet. It was hard not to laugh.

Dang 90 some replies. This thread is getting 'big'!

(i'll go a head and place myself in the corner for that joke...)

I suppose it's all relative. If you cut from 5000 to 3000 you probably would find a little success.

No, it won't kill me, but it would punish my pocket. That was my original point.

And once again, why should the government care whether I drink Mt. Dew or water.

I agree with that, I mean it's still better then her daily burger and fries, but still not that great. Maybe substitute a couple of those Smart Ones for a banana and some yogurt.

That will never happen with her through, we start at 7:30, she is talking about lunch by 7:45. She is the type of person that when she gets back from a vacation all she wants to talk about is the different restaurants they went to and what they ate.

I do love a good restaurant, but there's no way a realistic person should expect eating out to be the norm, unless they want to be obese.

We have lunch catered in from a nearby small restaurant daily. Sometimes they'll mix it up and get giant tenderloins from a Tasty Freeze or get real wild and bring in the most heart stopping Mexican food I've ever seen. I'm no detective, but I'm going to guess that is a main reason why every woman in the office is obese.

I stick with my turkey sandwhich, apple, and water.
