You are all too young. 1972 ISU vs Nebraska. Tom Goedjens missed the PAT with no time left, South end zone of Clyde Williams. Game ended in a tie. Nebraska was ranked #4, ISU about 17th. Goedjens never missed another extra point and was one of the steadiest kickers ever.

Winning the OT coin toss and picking to go on offense in the 1996 Wyoming game. 1st OT game with the new alternating possession from the 25yd line rule. Lost 41-38 in OT

With all due respect, not sure why this one is in the running unless you were in the field

I don't think we picked offense or defensive but rather which end of the field we wanted to play on. Mac thought the students were being loud and it would make a difference. smh

As far as football I'll go off the board. Nick Leaders makes the pick and we win in OT in 2005. I think that game going our way changes how that season goes.

2005 man...

Greg Coleman throwing the ball on the ground heading into the end zone against Baylor.

The debacle of a last 5 minutes at Missouri including knocking out Brad Smith only to have Chase Daniels come in and light us up.

At Kansas where Brian Luke "ran" for a 1 yard "touchdown" where he was stood up on 4th and goal and taking a knee with a minute plus left needing only a FG to outright win the North...

That season...

I'll take the field goal from either 04 or 05. A trip to the big12 title game would have been nice.
Wonder if that would have kept Mac around any longer

That ******* blarge.... that game STILL pisses me off. 1st game all year that Fizer fouled out. Hmmm, had to be the crooked officiating?

Not to mention a 4-loss (total) Big 12 regular season CHAMPS and Big 12 Tourny CHAMPS receiving a ******* 2 seed in the NCAA Tourney, only to have MSU play a ******* defacto home game. A 2 seed? With that record and success in-conference? NCAA effed over ISU that year.

Total bull.

Ok, I'm done, this thread is ticking me off.
Let's not forgot all of AJ Granger's illegal screens and the announcers constantly saying Mo-Pee.

F'in Bill Raftery. F'in Blarge. F'in refs. Man, Mateen Cleeves is ugly.

All this time and all this cussin' and my palate still isn't cleansed from that stupid game. Blech!

I can probably think of a better choice, but the play that I can never get out of my head is the 2010 Nebraska overtime game. Colin Franklin was so wide open for the 2-point conversion. I was sitting in that end zone and jumped to my feet as I saw we were going to win the game. But our holder, Kuehl, choked and instead of just firing the ball in to Franklin for the win, he chucked up a lollipop floater that barely made it past the goal line and was at least 5 yards short of our receiver. Kept us from going to a bowl game. I must have agonized over that failed play 1,000 times. I'm sure Mr. Kuehl has also, I can't imagine having your one chance to be the hero and you just freeze up. No doubt he would also like to have that play to do over.
Ironically I played in a golf outing this summer with Mr Kuehl and we were all having some drinks and giving some crap to one another on the course and I brought up that play to him just in passing and kidding, but I can assure you, as much as it hurts us, he definitely feels more pain than we do. I wish I wouldn't have said anything I could tell it was brought back some dark days for him.

I was at the K-State Arrowhead game where we through a long TD pass with under 30 seconds left to "tie" the game.

And then had the extra point blocked. So I never take a PAT for granted with Iowa State.

I was at that game as well. That was painful to watch.

Another game I'm surprised that it hasn't been mentioned was the Jeremiah George fumble recovery against Texas. Iowa State wins that game and the whole season could have been different.

Offense wasn't even the choice. They chose the south end of the field, which allowed Wyoming to pick defense.

Shaggy's missed FG in that game was in the first OT and wouldn't have won the game outright; the way we had been playing in the 4th quarter, KU probably would have scored the winning TD on their next possession, anyway.

Standard Mac offense with the lead, and then the defense forgot how to cover/tackle.

2:53/4th, ISU ball at own 30:
Run for 1, run for 0, KU timeout, incomplete pass, punt

1:49/4th, KU ball at own 42:
Pass for 3, pass for 5, pass for 35, pass for 15 (TD)

0:56/4th, ISU ball at own 27:
Run for 6, sack for -4, ISU timeout, incomplete pass, ISU timeout, punt

OT1
ISU: incomplete pass, run for 2 (out of bounds!), incomplete pass(!), 41-yd FG miss
KU: run for 2, run for 3, run for 3, 34-yd FG

Any new student season ticket holder should be required to watch these plays to understand what there getting into. Then understand why some of us are so goddamned bitter.

That's funny.....i can see a Cyclones.tv youtube clip that you are forced to watch before you can put the tickets in your online shopping cart...."we commend you for taking the road less traveled....thank you for signing up for tickets...thank you for acknowledging any kicks to your stones were softened by the stones of so many of those that came before you..."

I was at that game, it was my Freshman year at ISU. That really was a kick in the pants to miss the PAT. As I recall it wasn't blocked, he just plain choked and mishit the ball. But at least it was a tie, so not like it lost us the game. Of course this was well before they instituted overtime in college football, so after he missed the kick it was back to the Towers to drown our sorrows. Fortunately, the drinking age was 18 that year!

You are all too young. 1972 ISU vs Nebraska.

Look at this whippersnapper here. You should know what's coming next ...

The year, 1923.

The location, Northrop Field.

The time, third quarter.

The player, Jack Trice.

The play, he falls.

After Jack Trice's death, Coach Sam Willaman said he would've been the greatest football player in America the following year. Teammates said he would've been an All-American. Football experts placed him on the same level as other black pioneers that reside in the NFL and College Hall of Fame. He starred in the mythical high school national championship game.

He played one full game for Iowa State. One.

Beyond meaningless sport, the loss of Jack still burns brightly. There have been so many like him, cut down before their time.

As soon as I saw that you had posted in this thread I knew what was coming. Yours is hard to beat.
