Yes, because there are a wealth of talented individuals just salivating for the chance to play for Iowa State. We have a word for people who aren't prima donnas and want to play for Iowa State instead of thinking Iowa State should play for them-- they are called walk-ons.

See Kansas state.

The penultimate hire in the history of Iowa State football was Gene Chizik. Truly a coach that a school with the tradition and resources of Iowa State has no business being able to hire.

What was his, and his staff's impression of the quality of program Iowa State is? We found in stillwater.

That's the impression and reputation of Iowa State football. We will never again get a first choice of a coach. Watch what is said about Paul Rhoads and the quality of coach he is when you all get your wish.

I have already said he should go because there has to be something to sell. But it ain't the coach that has caused Iowa State to suck these last two years. And if you all aren't going to make the necessary changes to structurally alter the reality of what Iowa State football is, it ain't going to be the next coach's fault either, or the one after that, or after that, hell we can go on till the end of time.

3rd largest university in the conference, and by far the smallest donor base. Facilities and budget now only a decade or so behind, still in danger of losing place in P5 conference, less than zero tradition, huge geographical disadvantage... But it's the coach.

Well done

I said when Kill has sustained success like Fry and Snyder I will change my tune, but I feel it's to early to for that yet.

What crap am I throwing against the wall?

I am pretty sure you were the one in week 2 or 3 throwing out that CPR has already lost this team. I would call you the one who throws random crap against the wall that never sticks.
No sense arguing, I respect your opinion, we are just a couple accountants with differing views on things. And I dont blame you for sticking up for Rhoads, he is one of the nicest guys I have ever met. I wish it would have worked out but it hasn't.

Look at the numbers. In my 40 years who has succeeded? It is sad, but the answer is no one! I suppose the next one could always break the string, but history is not on our side here. I am not a fan of firing a coach without a better plan. I am not convinced that there is a clear cut better plan at this point. This is SAD but IMO true.[/QUOTE

This is why you let the AD do his job and evaluate the prospects.

Write more checks, huh? Writing more checks has nothing to do with the inability to beat UNI, NDSU, and KU. Enough tens of millions have been spent to accomplish this BASIC task. And the fact it has not paid off is now part of the problem for the program in convincing me (and I would suspect many others) to write more checks.

Wow

Just how many other p5 football facilities have you visited?

Go look at what they have in stillwater, Norman, Austin, Lubbock, and now Waco, then come back and try to spin that sorry take.

You were right on one thing, though. It is bigger than one man. It requires a whole lot of men writing checks.

I don't have to read cyclove's posts anymore either. They all say the same thing. First he starts out by calling someone intellectually deficient or just says they are idiots who don't know anything. Then he goes into multiple paragraphs about how we all don't donate enough money.

Must be a frustrated athletic department employee looking for a raise.

Are you giving as much as you can, or are you part of the problem?

Lol. Nice understanding.

First, these tens of millions are a pretty recent investment, see budget from 3 years ago.

But yeah, never let things like facts get in the way.

It's amazing that you all can't figure out I'm agreeing with you on firing him. But again never let facts get in the way.

So, in other words, never let agreeing with everyone prevent you from going off on your screed about donation levels?

Our biggest problem offensively is that we are doing what everyone else is doing with inferior athletes. Going to Texas and Florida and scooping up everyone that the schools down there didn't want isn't going to help anyone. Do you honestly think that any kid from Texas or florida wants to come here? We need to develop a pro-style offense and get more kids from the upper Midwest where ISU actually might mean a little more to them.

No, in other words, look at the entirety of the problem.

In other words, understand the facts about the situation, and show the commitment to resolving them.

In other words, all the drizzling ***** spouting off about its just the coach, and how replacing him will magically bring this "realistic" level of success that has never EVER ( just read Chris Jericho ' s new book I highly recommend it) been done in 125 years here is ******* stupid and not based in reality.

In other words, realize that all of these great improvements that are supposed to somehow make Iowa State this attractive job, are still years behind the people we play every year. And even worse, we had to borrow against future tv money to get them done in the first place. In other words, show me another school we have to compete against that has to do that, other than Kansas.

In other words, I'm sure it's just the coach, not the by far lowest donor base in the conference. And when nothing changes and in 5 years, we're here again with the same drizzlers, who have never changed, spouting off on the next guy and how he can't coach, we can do it all over again

Good post

But you left out having two full recruiting classes crippled by realignment.

Yeah, that totally explains losing those games to teams from lower conferences\divisions like UNI\NDSU\Tulsa or other teams that were in the same realignment boat like Kansas

This is complete rumor so please take with a light grain of salt.
But a guy I work with said he was listening to sports radio and a rumor floating around was that Stoops might come to ISU. To tell you how vague it is, he cant even remember which one (Mike is the only possibility obviously) but the thought of him seemed interesting.
