Tubervilles offenses at Auburn were anemic at best, without Leach calling the shots Tech offense loses ALOT, Leach was the mastermind and made it work.

Tech losing Leach is huge - he made Tech relavent by having a unique offense and put them on the map. Tuberville changing the offense to a more traditional offense takes the uniquness away which means they lose what made them unique and will hurt them in recruiting. I would be surprised if Tuberville works in Lubbuck.

Wow, quite the optimist we have here. Realistic? Not a chance!

Perhaps you should take off the blinders and start thinking about the team that the cyclones really are, and that is not a great team at all. Here's their record next year:

Northern Illinois - W
@ Iowa - L
Kansas State (@ Arrowhead) - L
UNI - W
Texas Tech - L
Utah - L
@ Oklahoma - L
@ Texas - L
Kansas (Homecoming) - W
Nebraska - L
@ Colorado - W
Missouri - L

I have a more optimistic take - I give us a win either against Tech/Utah and I think we beat KSU to bring us to a 6-6 record and bowling. The NIU game will not be easy as well as winning in Boulder but both can be had.

A five win season would be a pretty good year. Six or seven wins would be a great year.

ISU will make a bowl.
If ISU beats Nebraska, we will win the North. If Nebraska beats ISU they will win the North.
Just my gut feeling.

Have no reason why people think Mizzou won't be a factor.

I can tell you guys, the Red Raider Nation is looking forward to this season. We love our new coaching staff and from what we've seen in spring practice, our offense is still going to be lethal -- we're going to score alot! But what really has us excited is our new defensive coordinator and staff!!! Coach brought in some speed and we will surprise people on the D side this fall.

Additionally, our recruiting has stepped up to next level. . . .we currently have a top 15 class for 2011 and for 2012 we just got the committment from the top defensive player in The State of Texas. Tuberville and this staff are recruiting their butts off.

As I said we are looking forward to the fall and I believe we will win 9-10 games! GO TECH!!!

Oh, good luck to you this year as well. . . except when you play Tech!

Tech fan here. We are keeping the same offense (OC Neil Brown played under Leach, and was the OC at Troy.), but we will be running the ball a little bit more. I don't know if you can catch highlights of the Spring game, but it is still the same "Air Raid". If Sticks starts, we will be tough. I think we will be fine on offense.

On defense, we will be moving to a base 3-4, but I think we will be in more 4-3 as the situation calls for. We have the DL and the LB's to play a 3-4. The question is our corners. If they develop, we will be very effective on defense.

Just my .02 cents.

I think you could be on to something here. Here are my thoughts:

NIU W
This should be a roll over game. Nuff said.

Iowa L
This one will be a tough one, especially in Iowa City. I think this could be a toss up especially after seeing what a CPR defense can do. (see +8 versus NU) I will say an L just for argument sake, but think this is very winnable.

KSU W
We are not going to let this one get away this year.

UNI W
While they are a very good 1AA team, they are still just that.....1AA.

TTECH W
They are breaking in a new coach who will be playing in Jack Trice for the 1st time, not gonna happen.

UTAH W
While Utah fields a decent squad, they still play in the MWC. I dont foresee them playing well on the road in a tough environment.

OKLAHOMO L
They're Oklahoma

TEXAS L
They're Texas

KANSAS W
The last two years we have come close to beating these guys, this year is the year. They are breaking in a new coach.

NEBRASKA W
No way is CPR going to let these guys win going out the door. By the time they get to us they will be bruised and battered from everyone taking their liberties on them. Expect another stellar defensive bout.

COLORADO W
Colorado can't even afford to fire their coach, this will be a walk in the park.

MISSOURI W
We get them at home. They aren't the offensive juggernaut of the Chase Daniel era. Jack Trice will be the deciding factor.

I think we have a good shot at making the conference title game. I know that may seem far too optimistic but if we keep improving week to week and this team can take off like I think we could be looking at one of the greatest years ISU has ever seen. Who knows "IF" we get into the CCG we may have a punchers chance. See NU last year who almost knocked of UT if it werent for :01.

Is it football season yet?
you sir are on drugs

What folks aren't accounting for is that Leach was more of a guy who placed emphasis on O and he also gave the team a nice nasty attitude.

However, apart from those attributes, the Tech D was never consistently good ... especially considering the level of talent that they had on the squad.

Given the fact that Tuberville is a very good teacher and coach and is smart enough to place emphasis on BOTH sides of the ball ... I really think that in the long term, Tech might actually end up being better off.

Frankly, Texas A&M is in a tenuous spot with regard to garnering attention in football. Thus, if Tech can shine and do what they can to overshadow TCU ... then they could take over the role as the #2 dog in the state. If that happens ... then Tech will push Texas even greater frequency.

This looks like how I'd probably project it. However, I think that ISU has a legit shot to knock off Mizzou. Also, I'm not familiar with the personnel turnover at Utah. Utah is VERY well coached and seems to be regularly well stocked with talent ... however, if they got hit by attrition and/or lost a lot of guys to graduation, then ISU could definitely pull off a victory there too.

Here's my take on the upcoming season:
Northern Illinois - Probable W, the Huskies are a good team this year and are favored to win the MAC. Don't be surprised if ISU gets an L instead.

@ Iowa -Probable L, if D-line gets to Stanzi, he can be rattled, and ISU will have a good chance of winning.

Kansas State (@ Arrowhead) - Probable W, but the kicking team needs to execute.

UNI - W, rebuilding year for the Panthers, and won't be nearly as good as usual.

Texas Tech - Possible W, if Tech's offense clicks under Tuberville, look out.

Utah - Toss-up, a bowl team favored to win the MWC. The best hope is ISU plays them at home.

@ Oklahoma - L, too much talent and on the road.

@ Texas - L, see Oklahoma.

Kansas (Homecoming) - W, Jayhawks have a new head coach, new system, and new players, plus it's Homecoming weekend.

Nebraska - Toss-up, If the Blackshirts prove they can stop teams without Suh, then ISU is in trouble, but the Huskers' offense does not scare anyone even Colorado's D.

@ Colorado - possible W, on the road against what probably will be a weak Big 12 team. Boulder's altitude always gives ISU's players trouble though.

Missouri - Toss-up, Mizzou's new QB sounds as if he may be better than Danielson; if so, then ISU is in trouble again. Hopefully the D has fully gelled by this game and can stop the spread and are playing at home.
I see ISU winning 5 to 7 games with an outside shot at 8, but no more. Still, this season won't be as bad as Athlon, Phil Steele, et al., think. Another bowl game for the Cyclones is my prediction.

I'm right between a 5-7 and 6-6, but I'm really trying to understand why so many of my fellow fans are considering nebraska a toss-up. Seriously? We might have had the biggest fluke win in college football history last year against them, and now it's a toss-up game? Please let's not get ahead of ourselves.

Slow time of year getting Tech fans on the board. So did the majority of Tech fans want Leach gone or was it one of those things where it pretty much had to go that way? Tuberville was good at Auburn partly because when you say you are from Auburn football it opens a lot of doors in recruiting - will he still be able to recruit as well for Tech? I only ask this because Chizik came from Auburn & UT and did not know how to recruit to a program that was not a historic top ten program.

Without Alexander, I see Mizzou being almost equal to ISU but falling a little bit short. Alexander almost single handedly beat ISU last year. Without him, and with the game at Jack Trice gives ISU a great shot at a win in my opinion.
