What's the point of this thread? This is why we can't have nice things. Hoiberg is happy here and we are playing the what if game when there is no need. Wait until have we have another successful season. There will be plenty of time for these types of threads. No way Hoiberg leaves before Niang is done.

In all seriousness I'm sure he has a small list, but Fred isn't going anywhere for a while. If he does leave for the NBA someday, I feel like he will pretty much name one of his longtime assistants as the guy to take his spot.

Talking about Fred leaving, even hypothetically, is going to get you backlash. From what I'm reading, you are basically asking people's opinions on younger coaches.

As far as your list goes, I'd have Kevin Ollie kick Jacque Vaughn to the curb.

To be on your list, they don't have to be people that would 100% say yes. Stevens may not be happy in the NBA and looking. Hornacek may have that "one job" that he'd leave for. Wouldn't hurt to ask. Few may be looking for a new challenge/change of scenery. Who knows? He's flirted with programs before.

But to be on your list there should be a >0% chance that they'd say yes. Most people on your list don't qualify, but Hornacek does by that measure, just because he's an alum.

The only acceptable answer is that we clone Fred Hoiberg. That way we never run out of Freds. Come on scientists, get to work!

i love your list as who I would like to see outside of Fred, but if you are realistically trying to think of who might be on JP's list, I bet you don't have 1 out of 10 correct. Sorry.

1. Beg Hoiberg to stay.
2. Bribe Hoiberg to stay.
3. Attempt to blackmail Hoiberg to stay. (Impossible, Fred is much too perfect.)
4. Attempt to clone Hoiberg.
5. Build robotic substitute to attempt to fool people into thinking we still have Hoiberg.

Just about everyone you mentioned is either in a good place right now, just got an extension, or is in the NBA. I get we have been winners in the past 3 years, but that's all because of Hoiberg and his system. No other realistic hire would have gotten us there 3 times in 4 years with the way we were left. The optimism is nice, but if Hoiberg left today I can't say I see any of those coaches who don't need a change jumping at the chance to coach a brand new team when the ones that still coach in college are getting into the tournament every year. If we stay at a high level for a while(and we will since Hoiberg will be here for a while) then maybe it's possible. But for now we don't know when he will leave so lets not worry about it. If I have it my way most of the guys mentioned will be too old to coach by the time we are hunting for a new one.

I just wanted to be part of this thread. I have nothing of value to add. Then again, the OP doesn't have much value either.
