Is "scooped" an Iowa thing? Never heard that before but it's in here like 3 times. Always "shovel" for us

I was surprised to get the message that school was cancelled this morning. I didn't realize another band of snow was coming through. We're in the neighborhood of 6" on the north side of Ankeny.

Had to move snow off the driveway again this AM so the wife could get to work (fortunately I have a tractor that starts well). 3rd time in the last 4 days I've had to move snow off the driveway. Southeast Iowa has gotten more than their fair share this year 6" overnight, 5" last Saturday, 10" the Saturday before....enough already!

Drove from Johnston to WDM on 80/35 in the early 5am hour. Made it without major incident, but -2.68/10, would not reccommend.

Anyone from Marshalltown know of a person/kids that shovel driveways? I have a 70 y/o MIL that shouldn't be scooping and I can't get up there.

BTW-What's the going rate?

That doesn't seem like an accurate comparison because summer storms are far more volatile than snow events. Wouldn't a better comparison be estimating the path, amount, and timing of a rain event vs a snow event?

Yes, but nobody would criticise a meteorologist by being off by a quarter inchin a rain event. In a snow event being that off means 3 to 5 inches of snow.

As I guessed, no school today down here in SE Iowa, wife did get our van out to drive to work. I suppose I should do the husbandly thing, and get out the snow blower to clean out the driveway since I am going to be home for the day.

This is the 4th day we have missed school this year because of weather, plus a couple of 2 hour late starts. I think we might have had one last year. We will be tacking on days that the end of the year.

Cedar Rapids/Marion roads weren't good this morning, even the plowed ones, which were still covered.

It was slick on my driveway even after clearing it, too.
