People gloss over that aspect far too easily. CPR had far too many mid-course corrections to count while CMC trusts in his approach, trusts his coaching staff and trusts his process and has proven results.
In the old days when any school changed coaches you normally "Lost a Year of Recruiting".....That's not true with Matt Campbell..............The recruits he is bringing from Toledo are better than what Paul Rhoads recruited.
I can see CMC and his staff being a whole lot better at recruiting that CPR's staff. Lets hope our new staff is better at developing players than the Rhoads Staff......
One last thing on this from me the tinfoil hat guy...another reason u just can't look at avg player rating is some classes are overloaded with certain positions of need...for example..CMC might bring in 3-4 TEs in this class I've read. Maybe one of those is above .80 bit the others prob won't be...how many strong 3 star or 4 star TEs are there. If we bring in let's say 4 TEs and sign 20 kids well that's 20% of your class that is TEs. Kickers, punters, etc..we will prob sign a kicker this class too. Maybe the kicker is a 4 star and .920 idk.
High correlation between recruiting a ND won-loss record, no doubt. Amazing record against Texas considering... I'm interested in the average recruit ranking of those in the current class recruited before and after Campbell.
Well I wasted a morning reading this, I have a headache now and will be unproductive until after lunch. So thanks for that.

The truth is, no one knows what the future holds. No one ( besides maybe Lou McCullough) thought Earle Bruce would have any success at ISU either......after all his head coaching experience consisted of 1 good year at the University of Tampa of all places. Yet, once he had a chance to get his recruiting classes and player development in place, he was able to string together 3 consecutive 8 win seasons for ISU before McCullough willingly sent him off to greener pastures.
So far, I like what I see of Campbell's staff and their recruiting. If nothing else, at least they seem to be able to usually land the player they are going after, and seem to have the ability to at least get them to campus and close the deal. To me, that right there is a big improvement.
Now, whether or not these players will pan out......no one (including the slimy recruiting services) knows right, as recruiting is pretty much a crap shoot. Also, at this point, we have no idea how this staff is at developing players. We also don't know how their recruiting, development and in-game coaching skills will translate at the Big 12 level. Any moron can speculate all he or she wants about these things right now and act like they know something, but in reality we all just have to wait and see, like any school would. I'm sure Texas thought Strong was their salvation too, and he may well be, but I'm pretty sure that is not going exactly as planned right now.
From what I have seen so far of this staff and their efforts (and success) I think there is reason for ISU fans to be optimistic.

The idiots trying to say this is a bad class realize Campbell has only been here three weeks and isn't done yet right? At Iowa State you usually recruit kids for a couple of years instead of a couple of weeks. It's impressive.
Yeah and again your entire premise is flawed. There is a reason that no body ranks classes this way. Why?Because it isn't an accurate gauge of future success based on talent. You start 22/85 guys. Most guys signed see little action on any team. If a school like Toledo can sign 5 or 6 good players every class and a few more serviceable ones even if they sign 8 fcs level players, they can still compete with or beat a team that signs 22 serviceable players as they would have more talent on the field. The way 247 does it they would have a higher ranking, but your way the sign 22 serviceable players would. You have started a dumb argument on a premise that is faulty. If you want to look at overall quality fine but recognize it means little unless you plan on playing a JV game and don't expect too much variance. Also expect higher average rankings in smaller classes but don't act like it is a measure of recruiting success that will translate more to wins than the formula the ranking services use. Because it isnt. That is a fact. They have tested it and their ranking method is a better indicator of future success.
Fact is this class will likely be ranked in the low 50's and 7/10 when all is said and done or better than any Rhoads class.

Interesting that you bring up Earle Bruce. Earle's main recruiting areas besides Iowa, were the Chicago area and Ohio. We had a ton of recruits from Ohio back then. We also hit Florida and got some really good recruits from there.
