How about Craig kohl from Wyoming? Won national championships at north Dakota state. Runs power run offense and stingy defense. Beat ISU, KSU, Colorado State and Kansas on the road the last 4 years. Also, play Iowa this coming fall. (With a new coach now.) (He's from Iowa.)
Or maybe Craig Bohl

My hunch is we will see our players play better than they have all year with fire in their eyes...our staff will put together an incredible game plan..with adjustments...we will prob go for it on every 4th down..and probably whip WV by 30...and everyone will be like "Where was this CPR". Including CPR himself.

Can we have Holden throw another pass. Maybe if Trevor gets back he can throw one too. Maybe we can have the three qbs on the field at once and run a double reverse with throw.

Hines is saying during Rhoads's tenure, and even despite his poor record, our stadium addition, upgraded practice field and support were strong. Is 50K+ a game not an indication? Those are good fans not the fair weather type. How is that possible if the CPR era was a total loss?

Exactly, you can't just look at wins/losses. Think about the end of the Chizik era compared to the end of the Rhoads era now. Our program is in much better shape.

WHO.
CARES?
so tired of this stupid stupid stupid dumb idiotic complaint. If the next coach wins enough to have some big name school hire him away, that would be the best thing that could happen!

What... sniff sniff... If he... sigh... leaves? I reiterate...
WHO.
F#=KING
CARES?
Think a little deeper. Is Iowa State ever going to be a power elite school in Football? One thing that might make us a long term winner is keeping a coach who wins and loved ISU and Ames and stays. But being a revolving door stepping stone works for you so be it. I don't share that.

How about game management and playcalling?

Without 2 years of recruiting affected by realignment we might not be talking about it. His play calling and clock management was terrible this year. No disagreement from me. But his downfall started when we couldn't capitalize on beating OSU, mostly because every media and message board was putting crap out about ISU and the MAC/MWC.

Why does that seem strange? He is willing to NOT give up on the players. That is a lot of respect he is showing to the kids and 'some' fans.

Seems strange that Pollard apparently gave him the option. I realize he did so back in 2006, but that was with a longer tenured coach that he hadn't hired to the position.

It's a nice thing to do. Doesn't hurt the program at all. And gives Rhoads some closure. Go listen to Oni talk after he got the news today, I think there are at least some players who will appreciate the move.

jsb has about half of the comments in this thread and each one makes me want to shoe my fist through my laptop

Yep. Second coaching change of the year and jsb is consistent in embarrassing herself and ISU fans on this site.

Winners like Hoiberg deserve courtesy and respect.

So the emo is still here spilling their diarrhea all over CF.

And no - 8-27 does not incite courtesy and respect.

Why the vitriol? Rhoads didn't lie, cheat, or steal. He worked tirelessly to get the job done. He gave his best every single day. He treated everyone with courtesy and respect. He deserves the same. No reason to hate on the man. It just didn't work.

Time to grow up.

Of course he deserves respect. Like I said- all human beings deserve respect. He doesn't deserve respect the respect winners deserve, but he deserves the respect all human beings deserve.

Speaking of, it seems like a guarantee that Rhoads' meeting with the players was a lot more genuine and lasted a lot more than 90 seconds.

I'm guessing there was eye contact and everything.

I take no joy in seeing a person lose their job. Even if the change is needed

Just consider the possibility that Hoiberg would have bombed. These boys would a flayed his name. Thanks for posting. Rhoads is gone after WVU and he was not the winner we hoped. But he was ours and will be a part of this program's history. Let's move positively together forward. Better days.

That's great.

Yes, he didn't lie, cheat, or steal, treated people with courtesy and respect. But at the end of the day, this is a business, and the measurement of performance is based on how many games you win, not how nice of a guy you are.

And I am extremely contentious about the point that "he did his best every day." He certainly didn't give his best yesterday. Or last week. Or much in the last three years that saw his teams go 8-27. He was too busy celebrating instead of securing victories, letting laminated pieces of paper coach for him, not knowing what down it was, telling the fans that his QB shouldn't be throwing TD passes, and generally throwing every player possible under the bus at the postgame press conference instead of being a man and taking responsibility for his own shortcomings.

Perhaps it's you that should grow up and stop crying your crocodile tears about a guy that was being paid a ton of money to fail at his job.

I will always like CPR. Even with the bad times his years were better than lots of stretches of ISU football.

The Toledo, OK State and KSU games made this absolutely necessary though...
.

Add Iowa to the list. That was a game we could have easily won.

If Rhoads is the class guy I think he is, he will understand that JP had to make this move and he will appreciate everything that Iowa State has done for him over the last 7 years.

JP and Iowa State have set Paul up for life, and he should appreciate that even if it didn't work out like everyone had hoped.

No, his downfall started when he was not competent enough for the job. He was good motivator, not a good head coach. It was doomed from Day 1.
