It'll be nice for Bubu to come in and give Lucious a breather without having to have Clyburn run the point. Some people may bash on him because he's not "up to their standard", but giving Lucious a breather every game with a player that plays great defense will be beneficial in the long run.

stevefrench;3264497 I think our team is playing pretty well right now with the guys we've had all year. they appear to be coming together at the right time. I don't see bubu making the group better[/QUOTE said:
Our team is playing well right now yes. Granted we haven't beaten a good team and have lost to every good team that we have played. BYU is average at best even though they are 15-5. Their best win is against 11-7 Virginia Tech. And I know we should have beaten Kansas.

With Bubu we will be a better team. Lucious played terrible in 3 of our 4 losses. Bubu might have given us a better chance to win those games, and he might have been the difference of a 15-2 record compared to a 13-4 record which we have right now.

I'm just going to have to agree to disagree here. your opinion of bubu's talent is clearly far different than mine.

The "Lucious played terrible" thing is irrelevant now. He's not the same player now that he (or the other guys) was in the beginning of the year. In the most recent loss, Korey played a great game.

Bubu will help eventually, but he really won't be ready to contribute anything meaningful for another 10 games. He's been out 2 semesters for one reason or another. He's not a bad player, he just won't be ready yet. It'll be good to see him back, though.

All i was saying is that if Bubu had been on the team the whole year that we very well could have 15 wins with 2 good wins on our resume. I was trying to show the importance of having him in the rotation.

I won't dispute that. He would have been very helpful early in the year.
The way we don't seem to gel until conference play, it may not have mattered, but it surely wouldn't have hurt to have him. Given how close 3 of our losses were, he may have made a difference for a couple more key wins and a national ranking.

you're showing the importance of having him on the team by blindly speculating what could have been and irrationally assuming that his mere presence somehow equals 2 more wins. you're equally as off base in your praise of bubu's ability as I am in questioning it.

bubu's actual value to the team probably lies somewhere in between your opinion and mine

You see him as a "turned recruited walk on from Ames". I don't look at the fact that he once was a recruited walk on or the fact that he is from Ames. I look at the fact that Hoiberg says that he is a calming factor on the floor. I look at the fact that he can run an offense better than Will can. I look at the fact that he is an experienced PG that has shown that he can compete against high level competition. I look at the fact that he can come in the game and play above average defense. I look at the fact that if Lucious is playing terrible we have a true PG(clyburn has never played PG in his life before now) that can come in and run our offense and take care of the ball for us. I look at the fact that he led the team in free throws per minute on last years team.

No one is saying that he is a future pro or a great player by any means. You have to have decent and experienced role players on the team to be successful team. That is what Bubu is.

Some people just blow me away. Dismissing Bubu all together. I bet some of you are the same people who think Morris and Thomas are a lock to come in and start next season and have Ejim playing behind Niang. Heck, I bet Grant Rohach will be starting PG for us next season. Coaches love him.

Just because people want or expect Monte and Thomas to start from day 1 next year doesn't mean they're dismissing Bubu.

No, it's this "the next guy is better" attitude.
I think Bubu needs a few weeks before he gets back in the rythmn. But he was playing very well and the end of the season last year. People are selling him short.

I've followed this thread with interest. I am not down on Bubu but like others, I'm not sold on him either. You can't compare his performance last year with Lucious this year, because we are a totally different team. We are more balanced...and we have a true point guard this year that we lacked last year.

Fred does an amazing job of using his talent to the best advantage..I am sure that Bubu will get minutes, but not sure how many. It is always nice to have someone in reserve due to injuries, etc.

But to say that Bubu can run an offense better than Will can would be the same as saying he should have been our starting PG all last season. My memory's not so good anymore, but I don't recall that being the case.......

Finally, we are much, much more of a up tempo team this year...we were moving that way last year...and that is not Bubu's game - at all.

Bubu is a role player, and we may need that, once he is back in game shape...time will tell what that role will be.

How exactly does that equate, at all? Never-mind the fact that Bubu got hurt just as he was starting to really come on, and prior to us figuring things out.

I agree. Last year, we didn't have a true PG. Bubu saw minutes because of that. And he did better guarding quick PGs than pretty much anyone on the roster. This year, that's just not the case. Lucious is the PG that last year's team lacked. The only thing that he can't do better than Chris Allen is score. IMO Bubu is an energy guy, a decent defender and rebounder for a PG. He's also shaky with the ball and a turnover waiting to happen. I think that he can help the team, but only as a guy who spells Lucious for small stretches. Lucious seems to have a tendancy of getting worn down and then he starts turning it over and jacking up bad shots. Bubu can help get him some more rest so that he's fresher at the end of games. He can also allow Clyburn not to have to bring the ball up the court or initiate the offense. I thought that Naz would be that guy to get those minutes, but they obviously don't trust him yet. I see Bubu getting 5-10 minutes per game at best. And I think that will really benefit the team.

I seriously doubt Fred stops playing Clyburn at the one during portions of the game. He's gotten better at it as the seasons gone on and Fred loves the mismatch opportunities it presents. Just look at the last possession of the WVU game.

I know it won't come from one person but I don't necessarily want Babb playing less or McGee. Bubu will help but I don't think he'll play that much, especially right when he comes back.

CLyburn doesn't have to be the pg to get those mis matches. usually same guy guarding him anyway.

I've always wanted WC to try to post up away from the basket when a smaller guy is on him. If he can back him down, he has a height advantage, and if they come over to help on him he has the passing ability to kick out or under the basket for an easier shot.
